Smt. Annie George Mathew

Full-time Member of the Sixteenth Finance Commission & Former Special Secretary-Expenditure Department at India Ministry of Finance

  • Smt. Annie George Mathew has recently retired as Special Secretary Expenditure from the Ministry of Finance, Govt of India. She has over 34 years’ experience in areas of Public Finance, Financial Management, Government Audit and Accounts, Public Procurement including Defence Capital Acquisitions, Human Resource Management, etc. She was the Government’s nominee on the Boards of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) and Indian Overseas Bank (IOB). She has served earlier on the Board of State Bank of Hyderabad.
  • She is an officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA & AS) of the 1988 Batch. She has a varied experience in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department through her postings within the country and abroad. She has also led audit teams working with different international and multi-lateral organizations like the United Nations, UNHCR in Europe, Africa and Asia. She has been member of International Standards laying Committees on Auditing.
  • With her experience in working in public finance in the Ministry of Finance at various levels and her exposure to state finances being posted in various Accountant General offices in Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, etc she has a deep understanding of Union and State finances.
  • She graduated from Miranda House and completed post graduation from University of Delhi and thereafter joined the civil services as an IA&AS officer.
